The Town of Eagle ushers in the Christmas season with its traditional Christmas on Broadway, Saturday, December 5.  Santa’s Workshop is from 3:30 – 5:15 p.m. and followed by the parade down Broadway at 5:30 p.m. The festivities end at the town park with a huge bonfire and live music.

The Eagle Pharmacy/Batsons Corner and the Town of Eagle are the title sponsors.  Also sponsoring Christmas on Broadway as Silver Bells Sponsors are Alpine Bank, Alpine Lumber, Alpine Party Rental, Berkshire Hathaway Colorado Properties, Bonfire Brewing, Circle-A Auto Repair, Comerford – State Farm, Interstate, SHC Landscape Co., simpatiCOWORKING, Umbrella Roofing, and Vail Valley Cares.

Michelle Friedman, AlwaysMountainTime Media, chair of the 2015 COB, said “To keep the event fresh we like to add a new twist each year and this year we’ve added the Wassailfest and the Peppermint Station.”

The first annual Wassailfest kicks off Christmas on Broadway’s activities on Thursday, December 3rd and continues through Saturday; Circle-A Auto Repair is is the sponsor.

Wassail, which sounds like ‘wassle’, is an Old English word meaning ‘be you healthy’.  Wassail became known as hot mulled cider, traditionally drunk during wassailing, a medieval ritual intended to ensure a good cider apple harvest the following year.  For a list of Wassailfest’s participating businesses, click here.

NO CANDY THROWING OR DISTRIBUTION OF CANDY ON PARADE ROUTE PERMITTED, per Eagle’s Police Chief, Joey Staufer.  He also said, “Failure to follow these safety rules may result in immediate dismissal from the event and/or a administrative fine of up to $250.” Chief Staufer further said, “This restriction was necessary due to accidents at other local events, which made it mandatory to have these rules enforced for the safety of the community and our children.”

New for 2015 – Peppermint Station is the location for children of all ages to fill a bag with candies of their choosing.  Peppermint Station will be located near Broadway and 3rd and is sponsored by Berkshire Hathaway Colorado Properties.   

Parade participants are encouraged to donate bags of candy, which they previously distributed during the parade, to Peppermint Station and they name will be included with the other donors.  Candy should be brought to the Eagle Chamber of Commerce office, 200 Broadway, Suite 120, by Friday, December 4 to have their donation posted.  For additional information, call 970.306.2262.
