Since 1961, Eagle has held its signature summertime event Eagle Flight Days. Flight Days was first observed back in 1922, a little more than a year after the county seat moved from Red Cliff to Eagle. However, the celebration fizzled out in the late 30s and during WW II, but it was successfully revived in 1961with the help of the late Harold Koonce of the Eagle Chamber of Commerce. He agreed to chair the event committee and along with representatives from The Eagle Valley Roping Club, Eagle County Cattlemen’s Association, the Eagle Lions Club and the Eagle County Farm Bureau the community continues to enjoy this great community event. For more history on this celebration, read an article published in 2011 in the Vail Daily, http://www.vaildaily.com/article/20110622/NEWS/110629999
Roxie Deane, committee chair and former Town Mayor, said, “It is such a delight to see our wonderful community come together for Eagle Flight Days. I thank all of the volunteers for their time and commitment, for without them, it would not happen.”
